Books
- The Cambridge Mozart Encyclopedia
- http://www.cambridge.org/features/music/mozart_0521856590/
- Just in time for Mozart's 250th birthday, Cambridge University Press is publishing
this new, extensive "Guide to a Genius." The encyclopedia, edited by Mozart
scholar and author Cliff Eisen, will provide "comprehensive coverage of Mozart's
life and works, and of the people, places and compositional contexts that directly
affected him." The publisher's Web site adds: "No other single work in English
on this genius composer covers as much about him as this encyclopedia does.
An A-Z layout ensures easy searchability. Entries range from major works to
small biographical details." The book, to be published in January, may be ordered
in advance through this link. Look for a review soon in the Bibliography section
of the Mozart Project.
Recordings
- Decca & Philips Classics
- http://www.deccaclassics.com
- Decca Music Group now includes Philips Classics, and this site includes a searchable database of the recording company's entire catalog including, of course, the Complete Mozart Edition. Type "Mozart" to list all recordings of the composer's music. Click on individual entries for track lists and (in some cases) RealAudio samples.
- Delos International
- http://www.delosmus.com/index.html
- Home page for Delos International includes several recordings of Mozart's works . . . and then there are the ever-popular Mozart TV and Heigh-Ho! Mozart: Favorite Disney Tunes in the Style of Great Classical Composers.
- Hyperion Records
- http://www.hyperion-records.co.uk
- Home page of Hyperion, "The Rolls-Royce of record labels." Search the catalog
for recordings of Mozart's music.
- Mozart Symphony in G Minor in Jazz
- http://www.thejazzmall.com/mozart.html
- Mozart Symphony in G minor (No. 40, K. 550), entirely in jazz with improvisations.
According to the recording's promoters, "this is the first time an entire
symphony has been scored, performed, and recorded by a jazz trio. Arguably
the pathos, and grand qualities of the original masterpiece remain. Plus,
there are jazz improvisations on sections, all built on W.A. Mozart's harmonic
structures. This is no-holds-barred jazz, performed by top musicians."
