This Kyrie, scored for four voices and strings, is the earliest Mass composition by Mozart. It was written in Paris by the 10-year-old composer, shortly before his family's return to Salzburg and the end of the "grand tour." Einstein calls this work "Gallic and songlike," while Karl Gustav Fellerer, quoted in Zaslaw's book, notes that "the manuscript shows the editorial hand of his father."
